dvd/vhs???

I tried to copy compact video cassettes to dvd on a dvd vhs recorder. It tells me it is protected. Is there any way to copy these.

Your tape probably uses Macrovision protection, which suggest it's a commercial tape. You won't be able to directly copy via your DVD VHS recorder, but you may be able to record it if you have another VHS player that you can connect to the AV input of your DVD recorder, and then place a video stabilizer device in between the connection (do a search on Google on "video stabilizer" for more information/places to buy - it shouldn't cost you more than $50 to $100).
