newbie, my dvd-r wont play in dvd player

Hi, I downloaded a movie and used dvdflick to burn it on a DVD-r disk. I just bought a Samsung blu-ray DVD player. When i put it in, it makes noise but then wont play. I updated the software, the manual states it will play DVD-r , any ideas?

* Try a different brand of blank media
* Instead of burning with DVD Flick, create a DVD folder an use ImgBurn to burn the disc
