    De-Macrovision PowerDVD XP

    Hi there,

I want to know if there is a way to patch or hack PowerDVD XP so that it stops checking the VIDEO OUT option on my video adapter. I have tried using RemoteSelector, which works but I can't handle the blue screens "FATAL EXCEPTION OE" when I select "Yes" to resume a disk from a previous playback session when both these programs run together. The video card in question is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX440-8X, the system runs Windows '98 SE.

The above problem started when I was forced to replace the VGA card from an ATI Rage Pro 64 to this new NVIDIA product. Previously, DVD playback was The original video card died due to a hit of lightning that came into the PC via the LAN

I use my computer to show anime at A-Kon's and anime gatherings (In case you're wondering, yes I do have permissions). Getting a blue screen and/or system crash is highly annoying and embarassing.

The following MAY be pertinent to your situation:

There have been several postings over the past few months regarding this specific matter. The solution is to download and install the older NVidia driver(s)...

"The 41.09 and future drivers have more stringent checks in the driver to comply with the latest Macrovision requirements. If the TV encoder does not support Macrovision, you will get the "Macrovision Distribution Failed" error message or a similar message depending on which DVD software player you are using. The BT868 and Conexant CX25870 TV encoders do not support Macrovision. If your graphics card is equipped with one of these TV encoders, then it will not support DVD playback with our 41.09 drivers and above."

This problem I had, I resolved it.

I upgraded to Windows XP Professional, and loaded the Windows XP drivers for my VGA adapter. This resolved the problem completely and I can carry on using DVD Genie as before, when I used to have Windows '98 SE
