What's the better codec for darker films.

Hey guys I'm diong the Mummy Returns right now and the first 2 pass I did has great looking day quality but the other scenes where it is dark like underground and stuff have a lot of noise. I was using divx 5.0.2 for this. Should I try another codec? Is there one that works better for a movie that has a lot of dark in it? I am using Vidomi for this one. I used Nandub sometimes too but I was told that divx 3.11 wasn't the way to go. I could be wrong though. If any of you have made this movie and it looks pretty much dvd let me know. I'm just keeping them on my harddrive so size really isn't a problem as long at it isn't 3+gigs. Thanks a lot

I'm not sure, but I think there is a programm called "nandub lumafix" which prevents that nandub reduces the bitrate too much on dark scenes.
