    got synch problems too

    Hello everybody!

I have got the same sync problem with the playa but other players (like win mediaplayer, microdvdplayer, etc.) have also problems during playback (every 5-15 seconds the player hangs).
I encoded hair movie with divx 4.11 using flaskmpeg 0.6.
I have got an amd @1.3 GHz, 256 MB RAM and Win2000.
This problem happens only with movies encoded with 4.x (the player too).

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

Have you activated DMA for you DVD-ROM drive in configuration panel ?

Maybe a dumb question, but what happens if you activate DMA for you DVD-ROM drive? Similar why does the DMA of your HD has to be deactivited?

I got also sync problems using
"amd @1.2 GHz, 256 MB RAM and Win98SE"
in the sense that the sound is finished playing earlier than the video. People say that you have to put the post processing level to zero when encoding. Have you tried that already?

I think that Direct Memory Access is by a ROM - drive less a problem than by a RAM - drive like the HD.

I tried to change the DMA - settings - they are correct.

Now I will check the postprocessing - method out.

        Thanks for your ideas!

What frequency did you use for you DivX: 44100 or 48000 Hz.

I got a lot of sync problems with 44100 and none with 48000...

I don't know what restless did. But I converted the audio to "PCM audio (48 kHz)" and used VirtualDub to compress it to mp3 44.1 kHz.

When I used the codec divx 3.11 this went perfect, I've no complaints about that. But using divx 4.11 I got the same sync problem as restless.

About this 48 kHz, there's something I don't understand. If I use VirtualDub/flaskmpeg 0.60 to convert the audio to mp3 48 kHz, the result is audio which sounds like crap. I heard that some soundcards can't handle that. I've a SB PCI128, do someone recognize this?

I've also a (dvd) Creative Dxr3. If I play a dvd on my computer I've no problem with this AC3 48 kHz sound. Is the audio converted to 44.1 kHz in the corresponding mpg2-card before it reaches my soundcard?

              OK here is a solution!
              I´m using:

Athlon @1,3GHz, 256MB SD RAM, Chaintech 7AIA on Board
Guillamot Prophet II MX 32 MB Dual Display

              1. First I used Flask 0.6 with MP3 128 Kb/s 48 kHz; divx 4.11(The playa streched, winmedaiplayer and others freezed every about 10 secs.)

              2. Now I tried to reencode the video using no postprocessing level - same as above.

              3. Then I took this video and edited the audio to 44,1 kHz using VirtualDub (just to see what happens) - synch OK (no freezes) - bad quality.

              3. To fix a good quality I extracted the audio stream to wav (vob2wav) and put it together the video (VDub this time 160kB/s 44.1 kHz).
The playa had no problem to play this file (synch correct) but winmedia and others had a displacement of about 300ms. I corrected it in VDub to see.
And now the crazy thing. In winmediaplayer it plays correct but also in playa the video is not out of synch - strange.
So I come to this conclusions:
Perhaps playa has a built in synch correction for about 400ms (?).
Im going to extract video and audio streams seperatly and put them together afterwards and never use 48kHz again (I have a video encoded with 3.11 alpha sound @ 48kHz and same problem).

Thank you for your ideas checking out this problem.

Thx, I will read the guides. I've two questions about your point 3:

"3. Then I took this video ... synch OK ... bad quality."

What is bad quality, your audio or your video?

In case it's your video (because you set the postprocessing level to zero), you can adjust that when playing that divx (at least that's possible in WM 6.4).
In case it's your audio I suggest you encode it to "uncompressed PCM audio" in Flaskmpeg and compress it to MP3 44.1 kHz in VirtualDub.

                  Another point:

"3. To fix a good quality I extracted the audio stream to wav (vob2wav) and put it together the video (VDub this time 160kB/s 44.1 kHz)."

I assume you encoded the video with Flaskmpeg with some level of postprocessing? Which level? After multiplexing you got the same sync problem as you had in the beginning, but you corrected it in VirtualDub?

                    Hi Wilbert!

The only thing I´ve changed in encoding the video was to set the postprocessinglevel to zero.
Then I took this stream and never changed it again because it is a good quality video.

                    3.1. here I meant the audioquality. I changed it from 128kB/s 48kHz to 128kB/s 44.1 kHz

3.2. same as above (video with no postprocessing level).
Sorry there is another fault. I took vob2audio.

This time there was a sound displacement (3.).
In point 1. there was a stretching.

I think thats the 48 kHz that my hardware cannot handle correct . I had only problems with 48 kHz sound(divx4.x and 3.11 alpha).
I´m sorry for the bad explanation an errors in my post. I think I was too happy of leaving my PC yesterday.
