MPG Movie Shorter Than It Should Be??

Hi, I downloaded a mpg movie that was about 80 megs and about 320x240. It was supposed to be about 8 minutes long and instead when I play it it goes to 59 seconds and then starts skipping to future scenes but the progress bar is at the end. Then after about 40 seconds or so of it doing that, it just closes. Now if I move the progress bar I can advance to other parts of the movie but it still has that time limit to the end of the progress bar. Only this movie does that so I don't think it is my system? What can I do to fix this movie?

You can TRY loading it into TMPGEnc and resaving it.

You've just encountered one of the many pitfalls of downloading somebody else's work...

      But???

If I reencode the movie it just sets the source range to exactly the normal end of the horribly encoded video which is about 59 seconds. I know that there is a program called divx fixer which can strip the index of a divx movie and rebuild it. Isn't there any such program for a mpg? Or what else can I do?
