    Newbie needs recommendation (please)

I am completely new to this but I do know my way around a PC. I want to take old video tapes and convert them to DVDs, with some ability to edit them. I need to know what you would recommend that I buy (hardware, software, etc.) to do it right. I've looked at packages (like Dazzle, etc.) but they get trashed by the users. I don't know how to begin. Thanks for any suggestions.

First, Purchase a Video Capturing card like WinTV that would allow you to connect your VCR to your PC. Make sure you have enough hard drive space to do so. Recording can use alot of space depending on the settings and compression/quality you want your final product.
