    VidCap Cleanup?

I make alot of vidcaps from standard analog TV through my capture card. Even though its a cable run, the video always comes out with lots of static and noise in the picture. I've been able the clean up animations very well, to the point that all the outlines are sharp and the colors are solid with almost no screen noise.

Live video though never comes out well for me.

Basically, I use various filters in VirtualDub to clean up the pic. SmartDeinterlace, then static and random video noise reduction. What I've done with animations is stack the static and random filters about 3 times. So its Smart Deinterlace -> Static Reduction -> Random Reduction -> Static Reduc -> Random Reduc -> (ditto) - -> (ditto). Like I said, animations come out fine, but no matter how many times I stack the filters, or what settings I use, I can never get a good picture with live video. Either it doesn't remove enough of the noise and blurs the image, or it removes most of it but adds in random points of very bright dots that make the image look worse then with all the original noise.

Does anyone have a method thier willing to share on cleaning up live video? It's driving me nuts that I can't clean up the noise enough and get a decent image.

Actually, the random filter I was referring to is the Dynamic filter.

And after some more trial and error, it seems the culprit is the Smart DeInterlace filter. It doesn't seem to deinterlace every line/pixel properly and the end product seems to add in bright points of pixels. I've since found and tried out Telecide and it seems to work properly with the static and dynamic filters. Gotta do some more testing but it seems adequate for now.
