Problems with X-MPEG

I have a BIG, stupid, annoying, ridiculous, boring etc.. problem!!
Whenever try to encode a movie (*.vob) to an avi file with X-MPEG I have the same message
"An error occured when trying to generate the file.
Check that you're not using the output file or the program is setup correctly."

Of course I did choose all the right options and the file is not used
by another application...
...and yes, the output res. is multiple by 4.

Very, very rarely works (actually once before a month)

Please help me because I 'll go nuts!!!

I had the same problem with 4.5 and 4.31alpha try using 4.2a it doesn't have as many nice features as the upgrades but it does work..................Cheers
