Hi everyone,
after a year of trying all kinds of codecs, filters, windows settings and players, I finally found a way of playing all my 159 Divx movies smoothly on my rig.
solution:
- forget about the divx 5.x codec!
delete the whole thing and use ffdshow instead, a great codec for playing all divx content (3.x and 5.x)!!! The codec also provides for great postprocessing tools.
- use BSplayer as your movie player
- to be able to have sound with your movies, use a mp3 codec (lame, fraunhover) and an ac3 codec
This combination was the reason for a CPU usage drop from 100 to 60%!!!
the difference has to do with 3dnow optimisations I think...so people with k6-x cpu's should benefit the most of it.
hope it works for you as well...

system:
amd k63+ 450Mhz
asus P5A mobo socket 7 rev 1.03
