what's the easiest way to rip a full screen DVD?

I am having the worse time ever trying to rip a full screen dvd to actually play full screen on the pc. I use smartripper to rip the movie, then dvd2avi to set it up, then convert it using TMPGEnc, but every time it still comes out looking widescreen and doesn't take up the entire screen. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

    "then convert it using TMPGEnc"

I assume that you're using TMPGEnc to convert the video to one of the MPEG formats - but, if you're only playing it on your PC, I don't understand why you're not simply creating DivX-compressed .AVI files.

Be that as it may, under the "Advanced" tab of TMPGEnc, set "Video Arrange Method" to "Custom (keep aspect ratio)" or "Full screen (keep aspect ratio)"...

        thanks for the suggestions guys

I use it to convert the dvd files into an mpg, since anytime I make a divx avi the quality seems really low. I"ll fool around some more and see if I can figure out my full screen problems
