    vhs to dvd?

    hello!
i have been talking to someone who is under the impression that one could record directly from a VCR to an external DVD-writer.
is this true? and what else would one need in this case?
    thanks in advance

    "is this true?"

Yes. The recently released Phillips standalone DVD burner can do this - but be aware that commercial VHS tapes with Macrovision protection (the vast majority are so protected) will yield unacceptable results, if the burner is willing to even recognize such a tape...

      thanks

thanks for your answer, it clears up a lot of things.

also do you have any advice for the best programs to use to capture video onto a computer? and then to burn it onto a dvd (i need to also split everything into sections before burning it)?

(i am looking into both the pc and mac options)

      thanks again.
