tmpgenc problem, please help

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble converting a movie i downloaded on the web (twice), each time i tried the convertion stopped at 99% with an error (write error occured at adress 004028A9 of module 'TEMPENC.EXE' with 009006C0)

the mpeg file resulting is not playing and window media player is only showing a question mark instead of a running time next to a black screen.

(I noticed the file name ends up with .DVDrip.VITE could it be i need to change a setting in the environmental setting or maybe am missing a codec?)

The direct show multimedia file reader plug-in in the environmental setting is set to 2 following a tip i read about.

Assuming that the downloaded file plays properly and is, most probably, a DivX-compressed .AVI file, do the following:

1) Load the file into VirtualDub

2) Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"

3) Save with a new (different) filename

I tried this, loaded the file in virtualdub and got a error message saying something about the audio ancoding being in VBR and that i needed to decompress the entire audio stream to a wav file then recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.

I tried to play a bit with the interleaving option before trying this without much success.

Can you tell me with what software i can use to do that uncompressing-recompressing operation?

Simply use VirtualDub to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into VirtualDub
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK".

Then (The SEQUENCE is IMPORTANT) first load the .AVI into TMPGEnc. Then load the .WAV file into TMPGEnc.

I tried this and TMPGEnc crashed at the end of the convertion like with the original file. AAARGHHHHHH.


I tried something else that was to run the MPG file that wasn't working before thru the multiplex and now at least i can play it.
It's not perfect but it's good enough to watch.
