Imagine ...

Hi,

Imagine 2 different movies but with the same filesize (700 MB) and the same lenght (1 h 40 min). All the necessery codecs all installed. Why a slow computer can play one very well but not the other (the 2nd movie is played with pause every few second or the movie is showed slowly, the sound is played great).
Codec, keyframe, filter etc. what could make this important difference?

It could be several things.

It could be that your computer has problems with the audio track on one of the movies, some audio cards has problems with 48KHz audio. Load the files into virtualdub and select File->'File information' to check the properties of the audio tracks.

It might also be that your CPU is simply too slow to play one of the files. Files encoded with GMC, Q-pel and B-frames in Divx5 require a lot more CPU power than other divx files.

You may be able to lower the load on the cpu durring playback by doing the following

In wmp6.4 select File->Properties->advanced->'divx decoder filter'->'quality settings', and enable yuv extended mode and overlay extended mode.

Restart wmp6.4 and select File->Properties->advanced->'divx decoder filter' and move the quality slider to Min.
Donate your idle CPU time for something usefull.

Frame size can make quite a diference (and frame size can be different at the same bitrate).
This is especialy obvious with a low memory video card, when the video may lag behind.
