    Static Sound

I downloaded an AVI compressed the video with DivX and the audio with virtdub as MPEG 3-Layer at 48K/bits, 44,000Hz stereo and 6 KB/s. From what I gather the best audio is MPEG 3-Layer at 96Kbits, 48,000HZ stereo 12 KB/s, this is not available.
I created a VCD and there is alot of background static and it makes it tough to here the talking in the movie.
Basically I am looking for a way to det rid of the backround noise.
    Please Help!!!
    Thanks.

there should be no need for the intermediate steps you've taken (using VirtualDub). Simply convert the ORIGINAL download .AVI to MPEG1-VideoCd format.

I tried that but since I had to split the movie Virtdub gave a warning that if I wanted to split the movie I would have to compress it also, otherwise the file would be VERY large.
This doesn't have anything to do with the static sound I hear in the background, does it?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
      Thanks.
