    hmmmm.....strange

all three files of LOTR worked fine for me...even converted to VCD and watched it last night on my television via my standalone player.

    Mine came from Morpheus also.

i've got a working version now (of the 3part SMS one)..the error thats about is in the second part near the very begining...so when downloading pause the download once you have about 3000Kb, and close morpheus, then rename the dat file to an avi and open it in a player which can handle incomplete avi's (e.g. virtual dub)...if it gets past the 80th frame, it should be okay...so rename the file back to dat and carry on the download, if it gives an error before the end of the clip delte it and try d/l a copy from someone else...

            I GOT IT TO WORK.

I also got it to work, using DALNET's HUMR encoding. Quality is C+ when played (super-blockiness, buzz-filled audio track) on VCD. If the morpheus version looks decent when played on VCD, let me know. What is it called?

Oh, and how do you avoid the huge amount of viruses on Morpheus? My Norton is past its virus definition updates, and in order to continue i have to SUBSCRIBE (groan). I'm worried that the next Civilization 2/3 EXE I download will be a virus that, yes, ruins my PC forever (BIOS infecters, anyone?)

Why would you want to watch a movie that's been camcorded (is that a word?) in a theater?

The picture is crap, the sound is crap, and often the moron who made the avi thought he should put his stupid logo throughout the movie. If you want to watch crap, why not take a dump and look in the toilet?

                    I agree with Onerose

First I go to the theatre, but there're a lot of movies I like to see again... so, I like to enjoy them in my home. Without the disturbing cries and sound that people does.

I like that too. I don't have a bad conscience about watching illegal copies, cause I spend half my paycheck in movie theatres and video stores. Sometimes I'd like to see them several times. Sometimes I miss them in the theatres and if I don't want to spend a fortune on dvd's, kazaa and the likes come in handy. BUT I always wait until the dvd is out, so I can get a dvd rip with decent quality. I've downloaded a couple of camcorded movies and they completely ruin the experience. Especially of movies like LotR. Perhaps if it was a crap movie (e.g. fast & the furious) it'd be ok. It might even enhance the look and feel of crap. I just don't like crap. But to each his own...

There's nothing I can say about that. I have no camcorde movie, I couldnt see lotr yet. All the movies I got from Kazaa or Morpheus were Divx Avi from a DVD (I guess)

Are the Cam movies so bad?

Well, you notice immediately the bad quality. Especially the sound, it's complete crap. This is really annoying if the dialogue is important (isn't it always), because it can be hard to hear what people are saying. Action scenes also get blurred a bit more, and sometimes you hear people in the theatre talking, or someone steps in front of the camera. It's like being at the theatre only with a blurred, shaky screen, and korean dubbed dialogue (almost =). And of course you lose the widescreen.

Anyway, the wait for a decent dvd rip is definitely worth it, especially with visually impressive movies, and, after all, movies are a visual medium.
