Is there a way to convert a .sub file created with vobsub to a plain text based sub?

Yes subrip will do this.

Load the idx file into vobsub configure to check which stream number you want. Load the .sub file into subrip select the stream number and go.

And how do I load the .sub into SubRip.
It says it only opens .vob vts_*.ifo and .ifo

you must rip the ifo, sub and vob files of the movie, then load all the vobs from the first one 1Gb or more

I'm still LOST!! How can I convert a sub/idx file to ssa or srt. What is the best program? Easiest?
What I really need is a program that will convert my avi and idx-sub to DVD.
DVDSANTa 4.0 is supposed to be able to do it but it's full of bugs and freezes, NO GOOD!
