I can think of a few:
    1. Use a USB network converter for the Win98 machine (assuming it has a USB port)
    2. Use an external CD-writer to transfer files from one system to another

      3) floppy disks
      4) serial or parallel null modem cables

OK option three and four are rather slow, but they work, and I have used all of the above except usb cables at one time or another. Needless to say, that I switched to ethernet ages ago. And I'am currently thinking about going wireless.
