Is it possible to get a virus when downloading movies from kazaa?

Okay I have been downloading many movies from kazaa and I wonder if I could get a virus from the movies I downloading?

I have downloaded many AVI movies and some mpg movies.
I though that i could only get virus by downloading fake programs in kazaa which contains viruses but never thoght of virus in movies.

    Yes.

Kazaa also installs spyware on your system.
I reccomend scanning everything you download with the most up to date virus scan utillities and using "adaware" to remove the spyware form your system. You get it for free Here

      I don´t use kazaa,I use kazaalite!

I know that kazaa has spyware so I have already uninstalled kazaa and removed spyware with adware and now are using kazaalite without spyware.
How can I get a virus in a movie I download? It´s just a movie and I use AVIpreview to see if the movie is right movie and the extensions is AVI or mpg.
I know that you can change the extensions but then you can´t tun the virus right?

You CANNOT get a virus from an .avi or .mpg movie file, despite what someone has written in this thread... A virus is usually deguised as something else despite a hidden extension. Only unless the .avi file (which is very rare i can assure you) is not really a movie file, then maybe it might be a virus, but its highly unlikely in movie and music files. Exe's and zip's are a different story...
By the way, youre better off with kazaa lite anyway

The best way to do would logicaly to have an anti-virus program installed and keep it updated all the time.

Despite what other people say "YOU CAN GET A VIRUS FROM MPG's" Everything on your computer is essentially "Data" some virus's like "W32.Klez.H@mm " can infect any form of file.
Virus's in mpgs are very rare but they are possible.
Also windows only detects the first file extention and ignores the rest so you may be downloading a file named brittney_spears_live.mpg but the file may actualy be brittney_spears_live.mpg.VBS

                  so when someone says
You CANNOT get a virus from an .avi or .mpg movie file they are 100% WRONG...

You can get a virus in any file of any kind.
Install a antivirus program and keep running and updated.

if you don't open any executable file and documents from kazaa the chance that you would get an dengeroes virus is very small!!
Let's all try to help each other

The chance of viruses in mpgs is very small, and people should know that there are viruses in kazaa so ALWAYS check the FULL filename before downloding anything

Now I´m real confused.Someone said that windows just detects the first extension on the filename and skip the second while another answered me that I would CHECK the FULL filename.I mean can you see the real filename or not when you downloading from KAZAALITE?I appreciate that you replies!

Yes, yes u CAN check the full filename on kazaa. Just make sure to drag the whole "FileName" column to the right so you can see the extension of the file.
And just to be on the safe side, in the kazaa filter, type in:
.vbs Although thats only 1 virus out of a million, its the most common virus extension on kazaa.

Yup kazaa lite already fills in the common viruses. As you noticed, viruses on kazaa are usually .exe or .zip with ANOTHER extension (.vbs) desguised at the end of the filename. However, with kazaa/lite 2.0 you are able to download .m3u files (music playlists) so i would reccommend you delete that from your filter. Those files are rather harmless
