    Help please!!!

    Hello,
    here is my problem:
I want to open an avi file and nothing happens with windows media player. With BS player, it's quite the same.
So I tried to open the file with Virtual Dub and it says:

Virtual Dub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source file AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility.
This may introduce up to 39726 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder (127.3).

My question is how can I decompress it with Virtual Dub?in which part?

Could you help me please,Thanks a lot!!

    1. Open the file in Virtualdub
    2. Go to File -> File Information
    3. Post what information you see here

The message that VirtualDub generated is in no way related to the various players' inability to PLAY the .AVI. It is merely indicative of a Variable Rate (VBR) .MP3 audiostream, which VirtualDub cannot process - but is usually readily processed by virtually any player.

By doing as enchanter suggested (posting either a .jpg of VirtualDub's "File Information" box, or typing ALL of the information [both Video and Audio]), you may bring to light one or more telltale bits of information that can be dealt with in order to resolve your dilemma...

If you do, in fact, have the XviD codec INSTALLED (and, presumably, an .MP3 codec of some kind), I can see no reason why you shouldn't be able to play this video in Windows Media Player (Unless someone went to the trouble of creating a very realistic header for a phony file).

Have you previously successfully played any XviD-encoded (NOT DivX) videos?

As an experiment, try zipping the file. How large is the resultant .ZIP file?

Actually it's the first Xvid video I play..It' s weird because last week I could watch this movie and now I only have the sound, the video is only lines of color....
the file is important: about 750 Mo.

Are you able to scroll through the video in Virtualdub? In addition, you might want to try reinstalling the XviD codec.
