TMPGEnc Cut and Merge

I doing some TV Capture in MPEG2 format at DVD resolution (720x576 I think)

I'm using TMPGEnc to edit the clip (removing commercial etc).
Unfortuantely for some Mpg files, The Merge and Cut tool doesn't work properly. For some reason if I cut say between 1.00s and 10.00s of the file it would retrieve 1s to 15s (otherwise it really is 1s to 10s but showing the wrong frame in the window).

Its only with some tv capture for some reason. Some MPEG files created cut and merge perfectly excatly where I wanted it.

Anyone had this kind of experience, and any suggestions?

You can try cutting with a BBMPEG, a very good cutting tool for mpeg-2. You can see the whole info here, but make sure to demultiplex your movie file in TMPGenc into a seperate .m2v video file and .mp2 audio file.

I dont know where the settings are for cutting frames (scenes) out. I have demux the file and set them in, put Im not sure where the cut settings are.

In BBMPEG: Start Encoding->Settings->General Settings: Start Second and End Second. Hope it works for you know.

No, its doing the same thing again....
I think its the MPEG file, the actual time isnt what I what from the frames. Even PowerDVD gives different time for a certain frame each time...

Is there a program to preview the Frame at a certain time except TmpgEnc?

Why don't you base your cutting on the VISUAL frame (instead of time)?

What do you mean? The only one I know that shows the visual frame is TMPGENC which doesnt do it properly... Say I cut from the beginning of a scene and it cuts it before or after by a few seconds off...

I WAS referring to TMPGEnc. Are you saying that you move the slider to the desired visual frame and press the right bracket ("}") to define the desired end point but TMPGEnc actually cuts at a different frame?

TMPGenc acts wierd sometimes when cutting mpeg's, so I suggest that you press "play" first and then "pause", then proceed to what parts you have to cut/merge.

Yes. For some reason, what was shown is not what is cut...

I have no idea why...

Just curious, what version number of TMPGEnc are you using?

For the heck of it, you might just try the very much older version 1.2xx...

Before going back a few versions, did you try my suggestion to pressing play right before cutting/merging?
I had a similar problem where my file would crash when I loaded it up in the cut/merge screen, but it was fixed by playing the video regardless if for 1 second or 1 hour, then i pressed pause and i could continue on with my operation. This however only happened with 1 file, I believe you mentioned " Some MPEG files created cut and merge perfectly excatly where I wanted it" Is this still the case where only some files cannot be cut properly?

Where can I download the older version? The TmpgEnc page only contains the newer version.

I tried pressing play and then pausing at the specific position and it works... but if I then use the slider it stops working, so I only use the play and pause. Unfortunately, if it is a very long movie then pressing play will take a very long time.

It seems to be happening with all my new mpg files now...
