As an alternative to upgrading my 5.1 receiver to a 6.1 receiver (argh!), I have explored WinDVD 4, ....4+, and ....Platinum.
To my dismay, it appears that WinDVD 4 in any of its incarnations decodes DTS 6.1 matrix only, and NOT DTS 6.1 discrete. The only reason I can imagine for such an omission - if I am correct that it IS omitted - is that there was a higher licensing fee for the discrete version. This seems unlikely, though, since DTS would seem to gain from proliferation of the format given its humble current situation.
If you know for sure that any of the WinDVD products DOES decode DTS 6.1 discrete, please set me straight.
If you know that it does NOT, do you know why not? Also, then, can you recommend a decoder that is current in technology?
Thanks,
Uncle Bob
