I am new to computer videos and have been downloading them on kazaa. I noticed that some videos let me scan through the movie while others force me back to the begining of the file. Can someone please explain why this happens.

Some videos are made properly, others aren't.
Some players handle videos made with different codecs differently.
That's one of the "prices" you'll have to pay for downloading the work(s) of others, rather than creating them yourself... -
So if I want to keep them should I recode the video?

Re-encoding already compressed videos will only reduce the quality. I'd suggest that you just "tough it out" and not fast-forward those that don't handle that properly - or purchase the DVD and do your own conversion...Comment
