    firewire capturing help?

    Hi, I am trying to capture film in high quality from my dv cam using firewire etc to use for compositing (not to make vcds or dvds)

    but all i have to work with at the moment is windows movie maker on my xp workstation.
    the bloody movie maker thing wont save it out as anything friendly.
    typical microsoft bullshit!!
    i could use anything else like avi, .mov even mpeg but no... nothing

    is there any better programs to download or is there a solution to help get my captured movies in a friendly format for compositing??? please help someone, asap this shit is due next week.

    cancel that

    actually it does kick it out as an avi but none of my programs can recognise it. Fusion or premiere

    the error says

    cannot find 'vids:dvsd' decompressor.
    how do i get this codec or similar ones that will suit??

      As I've posted elsewhere in these forums:

      A Google search discloses that one version of this codec is available for download from:

      (Since this is the publisher's site, and it's indicated that it places a watermark on the files, I assume that this is a legitimate "freebie" and NOT warez)

      Additionally, an unrestricted version should be available in the following "codec pack" Tsunami FilterPack 3.9.6

      Let us know of your success ;>}

          .this will suck but will work.movie maker saves as wmv..you can then convert that to an avi with the "stoik video converter" or "asf tools".then load into tmpg to convert to mpeg.stoik can be found here.

          asf tools can be found on vcdhelp.com in the "convert" section(i think)..it could be under the "tools" section.
