    As the old saying goes, "It ain't the size that counts."

    1) You can typically put one hour of video on a CD in VCD format.

    2) Yes you can burn (using NERO or similar software) a properly created (using TMPGEnc or similar software) VCD to a CD-R.

    However, if your intention is to play the VCD on a standalone DVD player, there are two things of which you should be aware:

    A) Not all standalone DVD players play VCDs. Go to:
    Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

    to find brand/model-specific information.

    B) Many standalone DVD players are "finicky" about which brands of CD-Rs they'll recognize (although most will recognize virtually all brands ofR/W CDs). I have had great success with the Prime Peripherals and ArtMedia brands of CD-Rs.

    Let us know of your success ;>}

      My answer...

      Hello,

      First, sorry for my english, but I'm belgian.
      I use Nero with his additional plug-in "mpeg2svcd" to transform a divx into a svcd but it takes very much place on a cd (maximum 35 min on a cd with a svcd !!!) but the result is rather good and so I can read my "svcd-divx" on a standalone dvd player (Toshiba SD210E) and it's ok (sometime, a few pixels...)

      Palu, from Belgium (french part).
