First, extract the AC3 sound from the AVI:
    1. Open AVI in nandub
    2. Set Audio tab to Direct Stream Copy
    3. Go to File -> Save WAV... and assign a name to the file. The resulting file will be an AC3 file, albeit with a WAV extension. Simply rename the extension to AC3.

Next, to convert the AC3 file to WAV, install BeSweet and input the AC3 file into the program. The use of the program should be intuitive enough for anyone. (there is an alternative using Graphedit, but BeSweet is certainly simpler for beginners).

Once you have your WAV, input it into your favourite MP3 encoder (such as LAME), and convert to MP3. Use nandub to mux the MP3 with the existing AVI:
    1. Open AVI in nandub
    2. Set both Video and Audio tabs to Direct Stream Copy
    3. Go to Audio and open the MP3 file
    4. Go to File -> Save as AVI and give a name to the new file

    Hope that helps.
