VCD's bruned from Nero won't play

I just started to try and burn VCD. I am a complete newbie at this. I capture my MPEG’s using WinCoder. Then I try and burn them with Nero 5.5.6.4. It seems to do everything right. I followed a guide that I found and the program told me that it was successful when the burning process was over. I am not positive on what a standalone DVD player is but I think that it is just a DVD player that you buy for you TV. I have two and the VCD did not work in either of them. It worked in one of my three computers. That’s it. I believe that these are the valid file types for burning VCD’s. I tried using TMPGEnc and it gave me some sort of error message. But I don’t think that I need that step because they are already the appropriate MPEG 1 files. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Yes, you are correct that a "standalone DVD player" is one that plays through your TV. Some standalone players are not capable of playing VCDs. Others, which can play VCDs, are very "finicky" about which brands of CD-Rs they will recognize and play. Go to this site for more information about the abilities/capabilities of many brands/models of standalone DVD players:

Video forums, video software downloads, guides, blu-ray players and media.

      Not easy, indeed...

      Hello,

First, I have tried to use Nero to make vcd but the result with my standalone dvd player was bad. Now I have the plugin mpeg2svcd from Nero and I make svcd : it's ok ! Nero transform divx files into svcd, and it works.

setarip is exactly correct when it comes to standalone players and VCD's. You should go there and check the model of your player and see if it will play VCD's and if it is picky about which CD-R's it will read or not.

Nero will encode [S]VCD's for you, but I would recommend using TMPGEnc. It will provied you with for better quality. It is the best I have ever used for encoding to mpeg, and will just about encode any video format to mpeg (depending on plugins).
