Best way to convert VHS to DVD

There are a lot of new stand-alone DVD recorders out there that you can use to convert your VHS and digital tape movies to DVD's. Is this the best way to go? Or would I be better off buying a DVD drive for my PC (p4 1.4GHZ, 256 ram) and a card that would allow me to input the video feed? (Assume I would also need some good software). Recommendations would be appreciated. Would like to not spend too much more than $1,000.00.

    Thanks,

    Auriga

A standalone burner/player, such as the one by Philips, is surely the simplest approach for what you want to accomplish...

It seems like it on the surface...but I wanted to check with you pros here to make sure this was the best solution. $1,000.00 is alot of money to me. Any recommendations on the burner?

      Thanks,
