    Full Screen MPEG TV Server

    Hi Gang,
Well my boss has given me a project. I need to set up a video server to play TV shows out to our main 28" TV M-F 8am to 5pm. Here are my questions:
-What format should the files be in (MPEG 1/2/4 etc.)?
-What is the best way to encode it, resolution etc.?
    -Which CODECS should I use?
-What format/method would take up the LEAST amount of space on a hard drive at the BEST quality?
-What capture card should I use?
-Is there a way to capture in the format I'm going to be playing back in? (in other words, can we capture it without having to render or convert the file?)
-If not what is the quickest way to convert the file?

Also we're using standard VHS tapes as the source recorded in SP mode.

Also we're on a somewhat limited budget and are looking at a Pentium III computer, a fast Track controller which can connect 4x250 GB drives (basically a terrabyte).

I have to have a proposal put together by the end of this month (Feb) so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Phil

    What am I not understanding?

It would seem that your proposal should be as follows:

Hook up VCR to television - play tapes...

Unfortunatly not that simple. He wants a "self playing" system where we don't have to change tapes. Also it will be used for Executive presentations and have been told "executives don't change tapes" whatever that means.

      Cheers!
