"Is it illeagal to say get broadband internet share with 5 of your friends make them pay 10 dollars monthly to you then pay your bill?"

My friends does this with the 2 pc's he has in his house. It is in fact illegal and if the ISP finds out they will charge you double or a fine, however, the only way for the ISP to find out is if you exceed 24hours of use per day. Seeing as that can only be accomplished if you do indeed split up the internet, you can keep one computer disconnected from the internet when its not in use. But since you guys are 5 people, it seems like it would be pretty hard to do that...
Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Fixes common problems too:

Also search on the whole Digital-Digest website:

The ISP's ability to detect multiple PC's on your line, depends upon the setup that you use.

If multiple computers are connected to the (Cable/ASDL) modem via a simple switch or hub, you ISP will be able to detect multiple PC as soon as two PC's are connected simultanusly.

On the other hand, if you use a PC to serve as a NAT server, preform IP masqueradeing, and connect the other PC's via the NAT server, your ISP should not be able to detect anything unusual, because all the computers behind the NAT server will appear to use the same IP address.
