    Xvid playback full screen problem

Xvid video playsback starts ok, but after a few seconds in full screen, the video scales back to its original (100%) size and is displayed on the lower left side of the screen. The rest of the screen is left black.
This happens with the 2 players I use (WMP and ZoomPlayer)
    Any ideas ?
The movie is ok since it plays ok in full screen on my desktop computer with the same players and decoder (Xvid)

    Any clues ?

    Try using FFDShow . . .

That sound like an video overlay issue.
Have you changed your video drivers recently?
Try updating driver for video card.

I did uninstall Xvid codec and tried FFDshow but it doesn't do any good.
I just noticed this also happens with a .wmv movie file (I don't what this type stands for)

Does it help ? Maybe it's not a Xvid problem...

I'll try to update my video card driver

I updated my video driver : nothing changed still displaying Xvid movies in original size.

I remember Xvid playback (with Xvid decoder) was ok on this computer a few weeks ago...I can't figure what happened
            I installed and uninstalled wmp9

Try reinstalling DirectX and use a different player, such as BSPlayer or WMP 6.4.

I reinstalled DirectX 8.1 but it didn't help

I installed BSPlayer and here is what happens when I start my Xvid movie :
                - Error message 1 : Overlay failed
                - Error message 2 : Display harware is not capable of color-space conversions. Switching to RGB
                - The video plays upside down

But NOW I can resize it with BSPlayer.

Can you explain me the 2 error messages or tell me where I can find information ? I would to like to understand as much as getting rid of them.

And what about the upside down problem ?

                We're getting closer...

NB : With BSPLayer, I get the 2 error messages with ALL my movies (not only Xvid) : DivX, mpeg, wmv...but the video is NOT upside down !

Consider upgrading your graphics card drives, those error messages are usually the result of old drivers.

Alternatively, your card may be incapable of overlay. In that case, in the BSPLAYER menu you can change the mode to "RGB" and avoid these errors.

Thanks Batman : changing the mode to "RGB" avoids the error messages but in full screen the video is very jerky (lost frames) and blocky (no smoothing). Xvid movies are still update down...

I happen to have 2 notebooks : same exact hardware, same Windows 2000 OS. But I only have this playback problem on one of them and I remember not having it a few weeks ago.

I guess it must be a config/driver problem. I checked the graphic card drivers as you suggested but they are the latest and are the same on the two notebooks.

After working on that issue for a while now, I understand there is something that prevents video resizing.

                    With zoomplayer
                    - I can't resize Xvid movies
                    - DivX movies may be resized but the video is then very jerky and blocky

                    With BSPlayer
                    - All movies may be resized but the video is then very jerky and blocky
                    - Xvid are played upside down

At the original size (100%), the playback is good, so I guess the resizing is not working correctly...

Try playing xvid files using the FFDSHOW playback filter (and don't switch to RGB)

IF that doesn't solve your problem, try changing the fourcc to dx50 using avi4cc chagner.

I have just fixed this excact problem myself, and its easy!

                            Go to CONTROL PANEL
                            then DISPAY
                            then SETTINGS
and change to HIGH COLOR (16bit)
                            (instead of TRUE COLOR-32bit)
                            Voila! Its fixed!

                            Hope this helps.
