Help! Converting Avi - Mpg audio problem

Hope someone can help.
I have a perfect AVI file with sound, but when I convert it to Mpg through TMPGEnc there is no sound. This is the only file I have had a problem with as all other avi's are ok. Has anyone got any ideas how to sort this problem out, or am I just plain stupid and missing something. Would really appreciate some help on this as I have spent days trying to sort this.

No, I would say your not stupid You have done a few so far. If you can open the file in VirtualDub and open "File/information" and post the info, we might be of better help.

The sound could be of the ac3 flavor ?

I'm having the same problem trying to convert LOTR-the two towers. The audio is unsupported in TMPG....here's the file info from virtualdub....

Video Stream:

Hi mmswim, and welcome.

Ok, the sound there is AC3.
The 5 channels gives that away. TMPG does not like this as you can see.

Open the avi in NanDub and then goto "File/Savv Wav".
This will extract the AC3 from the avi. It is important that you rename the extracted file back to AC3.

Now, use Besweet to transcode to WAV, whick TMPG just loves

Now just feed these two into TMPG and use a template to encode to S/VCD.

That was a quick and dirty explaination. I'm in work and doing two things at once is tricky

what do yo mean by "rename the extracted file back to AC3"?

When NanDub extracts it, the file is "Whatever.wav"
This could in fact be an AC3 or an MP3 or indeed a WAV file. It just uses the *.WAV extension.
AS we know it's a AC£, rename the file *.ac3.
You will need to enable file extensions in windows.

Open explorer and open View/Folder options......View......untick "Hide file extensions"

Open explorer and open Tools/Folder options......View......untick "Hide extension for know file types"

Temp Encoder audio problems

I´ve had some problems with the Temp Encoder also, the problem was that the video had compressed audio.

Here is a program to uncompress the audio to PCM format.

Try this, it solved my problems !!
