Please help. My problem has got from bad to worse.

    Hello

I appreciate your time taken to read this.

I have the same problem as this person here:
Talk about general digital video topics not part of the categories/forums below

I am unable to play any xvid movies. I have WMP 9.

I can only hear the sound but the video is all trash.
Now, I posted a similar problem on other message board. I tried possibly everything.

I unstalled everything and then reinstalled it. I tried all versions of Divx and xvid codec, I tried various versions of FFdshow and even installed the stsunami filter pack like someone recommended.

Now, at the end of the day... after hours of messing around with uninstallation, and reinstallation and all sorts of various files. I am totally screwed. Even the normal DivX movies have stopped working.. and the original problem still hasnt been fixed.

    Need help.

And please dont ask me to format.

    Thanks for your time again.

    Regards.

I cant watch Xvid movies with DivX player but with WinDVD and other prgrams like that such as Real One, and Windows Media Player 9 series. So try watching them on other programs.

First, I need your Video Compression Codec list from Control Panel - Multimedia - Devices - Video Compression Codec (For Win 9x)

For Windows XP : Control Panel - Sound and Audio Devices - Hardware - Video Codec - Properties

This was the codecs installed list on your computer.

If this section meshed up, the video will not be displayed.

No need to install a bunch of codecs (will make everything become worse). Just install the needed codec and if you want to see the needed codec for your avi files, you can identify it using GSpot software (Freeware)

Download GSpot, a video codec identification utility

          Hello again.

The Tsunami Filter pack didnt help.

anyway, I found some interesting things with Gspot.

First of all, I removed all my DivX codecs manually using the Control Panel. Inspite of that, GSpot told me that I have DivX codec installed... I found that weird. But, GSpot was right! I was still able to play my DivX movies. Thats weird isnt it?! I shouldnt be able to play them because I just uninstalled them and even restarted windows.

anyway, after some further testing. I found out that the xvid codec was not properly installed. I downloaded the Xvid codec from this site and installed it. But, it didnt help... GSpot says "Codec IS installed". But, I was still unable to play my Xvid movies. On the other hand, in the case of Div3 movies I am able to play them normally now.

So, the problem lies only with Xvid.
