If you take a DVD and rip off everything exept the subtitles, ac3 and the actual image in 1 format, I think one could state that the average size would be around 4GB
I have many DVD-DivX rips at home(properly ripped by major releasing groups) and from what I've seen up to now, to get really crisp quality comparing to DVD you probably need an average of 1 GB of video data. To have the audio in close to original quality you need to take the original AC3 which for multi channel audio is compressed really well allready. This adds another 300-400MB.
This brings the average DVD rip to aprximately 1.5 GB of data.
This means a compression factor compared to DVD of 1:2.7
I think that's not really spectacular.
What do you think? Did I make a mistake in my assumptions?
