burning dvd rw

is it possible to burn an avi video file (encoded by tmpgenc into dvd format) onto a dvd+rw inorder that it may be played on a stand alone dvd player using the latest version of nero?

i have tried to burn the file several times and am unable to do this. when i encode the file using tmpgenc into DVD PAL it saves the file to my harddrive as an Mpeg file, however nero does not appear to accept the file but rather requests vob and other formats ive never heard of.

somebody please help this is becoming extremely frustrating!
