problems with asf

I downloaded an avi and It is running very choppy on my best media player. When I open it in gspot it says under file, status "file is asf" stream type "video/x-ms-asf" video format everything is n.a. under directshow rended it says video media "4cc: WMV2" and under video coded it says "ASF ICM Handler --> WMVideo Decoder DMO" I can't figure out what the prolem is. Also windows media player runs indrecidbly slowly on my computer no matter what I'm doing if im listening to music or watching video. Thanks for any help.

Have you tried playing the file in WMP9?
