I have been ripping and encoding with neodivx and smartripper with only occasional trouble and recently ventured out and looked at some other rip/encoders and one of them added some ASPI drivers. I previously had none (winxp system) and had no trouble, but after aspi was recognized by smartripper, it gave me trouble and winDVD didn't work anymore. I reloaded a recent Adaptec ASPI driver and smartripper and windvd seem to work okay now - however, smartripper takes a lot longer if I use the ASPI driver and seems to work much better if I rip the VOB using the DECss (or whatever it is called). So my question is, what good are ASPI drivers - do I really need them?
