using TV-out - no picture on TV

hello - i'm having a problem right now, hoping y'all can help... i got a new ti4200 and would love to use its tv-out feature. the card came with an s-video to rca adapter and i used that to connect to my tv. the tv only has input for rca and coax.

so first i went through these forums (which are dandy) and looked at what people had been doing. so i turned off the pc, connected all cables and re started. tv was on the whole time, on video mode.

nothing on the tv yet.

got into vid properties, clicked into nview, and then clone. cheer! it listed a tv as second device after clicking clone. from what i had read on the forums, this was a good sign. i clicked 'ok' and then it gave the 15 sec warning, etc... but nothing happened - nothing on the tv. so i tried rebooting with the moniter unplugged. nothing. rebooted with monitor back on - re-read a bunch of threads looking for similar problems... only found a few... tried some thing - installed tvtool - great little prog - tried that - no work either, PLUS it said it didn't know what tv chip i had even though the nview thing says i have a philips 7102. hm.

so here i am... tried a bunch of stuff, can't get it to work - i DO NOTICE that when in Nview, if i click 'detect' i notice the screen on my tv will flash... so there is a connection there somewhat.

oh, i also tried different resolutions using tvtool.

anyway, i'm totally at a loss, and bought the card hoping this would work!!!

any ideas?

oh - forgot to put my specs
athlon 900
kt7-raid
512 mb ram
gf ti4200

figure that's all ya need!
oh detonators 4109

man, i am totally at a loss here....

i've tried everything! heh

ok i also made sure that i selected device 2 (generic television, it says) under settings and that in the nvidia advanced settings, that 'TV' is selected. yes it is. still when i click 'detect' it makes the tv screen flash (it just stays blue screen, but flashes a little.)

also i've tried different resolutions, 640x480 and 800x600.

*Sigh*

wtf?

ok, now i've tried going through my vcr, just to see if that worked... and i think maybe i've made a little progress

instead of hooking the rcas directly into the tv, i went into the vcr, then coax from vcr to tv. set the vcr to LINE channel (what i use for the dreamcast)... and now instead of a "blue screen" that does nothing - now i have a flashing screen with white and black lines all over the place... still can't see pc desktop, but its trying to do something, apparently.

hm... i've also messed with the refresh rates, but that doesn't seem to help either.

anyone have a clue?

thanks!

Is your secondary display (the TV) set to the correct mode (NTSC vs PAL)?
I didn't quite get it, what video card do you have?

You seem to be doing everything right.
So all I can suggest is to clean-install your video card (remove it from hardware, install it again with those new drivers).
Rebooting with or without TV plugged shouldn't make any difference at NVidia cards
PS and make sure the RCA cable is good

I use a radeon 7500 /w 128MB DDR, and tv out

I dont know about your video options but when i go to display properties, then setting, i have an advaced button. In there i have the option to turn on my tv out display under a displays tab. When that is off there is no picture on the tv. but when i turn it on, presto, the picture starts.

using the coax wont make a difference, i am almost 100% sure.

I hopes that helps. I am not to sure about the software that comes with nvidia, never had one

NVidia and ATI video cards are quite different, especially regarding the TV-output. I've only used ATI once, so can's say much about it (except I wasn't impressed with the quality of the TV image; the sofware seems intuitive, but in fact it takes a lot of tweeking to get good results).

wich kind of file do U use to try the Tv out?
'cause certain divx files doesn't work in a Tv out.
Try with different kind of files.
Video music files usually work better.

Video playback on tv-out has almost always to do with overlay settings (driver settings for NVidia, player software with ATI-as I understood from other posts).
But the problem here was not having any video output on the TV. (@kamuell, any progress?)

Until U'll find a strange Divx....
Not all the people know to convert as well
U'll find it one day, be patient.
I post that message 'cause kamuell didn't specify wich files he used to test.
He could try with the same file.
Maybe sometimes we are doing simple errors.
Anyway U R too much polemic.

I guess i will have to wait until that day, i know why you posted it, i just was saying that i have never had problems with DivX files. Excluding a couple fakes i got off of P2P.

polemic
Nice use of words, but i dont thing that i was being that passionate. I was mearly trying to deffend Ati cards, and the fact that from my experience, DivX have worked on my TV out

BTW...i dont mean to be an ass, but you should realy proof read your posts.
