    PLease help a newbie

    Hello there,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I don't really know where to put it.

I have got a copy of We Were Soldiers in Xvid. I want to put this to DVD. I have ripped the ac3 to a wav format ready to put into Tmpeg.

But Tmpeg says it cannot open the video file. The Xvid plays fine in media player, and will load up into Virtual Dub. But not into Tmpeg. I think I have all of the codecs needed because it will play on the PC.

I know there are settings within Tmpeg under 'Environmental Settings, but I haven't got a clue about them.

Can anyone tell me how to get the Tmpeg to read the video file so I can encode to Mpeg2 ready for the DVD burn.

Thanks for any hellp on this one.

"I think I have all of the codecs needed because it will play on the PC."

That's not necessarily true. You may have a general playback FILTER installed. I'd suggest you download and install one of the XVID codecs.

"I have ripped the ac3 to a wav format ready to put into Tmpeg."

Although there's no harm done, this is unnecessary. In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...

Thanks for the reply. I installed another codec but it didn't help

So I went to enviromental settings and reset all, and it works.

thanks for the info on the ac3 I tried it and it works fine, so in future I won't have to re-encode the audio
