Turn a whole bunch of AVI, MOV, WMV, etc into a DVD Video

I have a ton of videos on my computer. Music videos to commercials, and of course, all of the BMW Films movies.

and the latest Matrix trailer - 100MBs

I wanted to put them all onto a DVD so I can watch them on my home TV. I know that the quality won't be great for all of them, but for some it will be better than VHS.

Anyway, here's what I know:
1 - I need to convert them to MPEG2
2 - I need to author a DVD with these MPEG2 files


Here's what I don't know:
1 - What tool can convert from different file formats?
Ideally, I put all these videos in one folder and tell a conversion to tool to convert the entire folder

2 - I need a simple (free or inexpensive) that will allow me to take MPEGs and turn them into DVD video. I don't care if the menus or boring or if there aren't any amazing features.

In fact, the menu can be plain text or the movie can be one long movie with a ton of chapters.

So....thoughts....

(Please understand that "TMPGEnc" and "TMPGEnc DVD Author" are two DIFFERENT programs)

1) TMPGEnc (including the QTReader plugin) can convert most, if not all, of the formats you've mentioned into DVD-compliant MPEG-2 format (use the DVD template or "wizard")

2) Using the recently released TMPGEnc DVD Author, you can easily create the multiple-track DVDs you've described - WITH super-easy menu constructs

(Based on other of your postings, I know I don't have to tell you to use NERO to burn the DVDs ;>})

Yes, I am burning with Nero so as long as it can create the VIDEO_TS folder then Nero can burn it.

Is there a difference between MPEG2 and DVD-complaint MPEG2.
Or, as long as I can get it to MPEG, then I can import it.

What is the price on these programs? Are they free? Where can I get them?

Yes. By using the DVD-compliant settings, you'll create files that have the proper/acceptable resolution, video and audio bitrates, etc. for creating a valid DVD - hence the name "DVD-compliant"

Alright, I tried this tool on a MOV and there was no sound.
I am going to try it on a WMV and see what the result is.

Any tips you have would be helpful...
