Matroska Container Format

Does anybody use the Matroska container that is already available in virtualDubMod? Is it a good way to mux?

I very much hope it is a good solution, we invested a lot of time into it ( about 2 years ).

We are struggling with debugging our Dshow parser filter a little bit, so that it will work on all PCs and with all video cards, but just today we solved another bug in the handling of laced blocks that was responsible for jerky playback on some PCs.

Expect a new DirectShow parser filter in the course of this week.

P.S. AAC in matroska is now working fine also, even 5.1 surround .... use 'CoreAAC' from http://corecodec.org/projects/coreaac for that ( you'll need a friendly compiler in your neighbourhood, who has M$ DShow SDK installed, and the FAAD2 sources from http://sf.net/projects/faac ) ...

Interesting name...those Russian nesting dolls are called Matrioshka. Was that a consideration when the name was selected? (a little trivial pursuit)

Yes .... but we found that 'matryoshka' was to difficult for english speaking tongues .... so we invented an artificial word, that by chance has a real meaning in Russian ( we should have double checked that ), being 'sailor's shirt or sailor's wife ..... ... !!!

I Personally estimate the big run from OGM users will start once we have

- chapters
- menues
- image subs
- SSA/ASS subs
- DShow parser with multi-language support ( now you can create files with many audio streams, but not switch on playback )

working. If our current development speed persists we should be there in about 3 months from now ....
