DVD Burners

Hey,
I am considering purchasing a dvd burner and I want to clear up a few questions. The soul reason for me purchasing one of these is to copy dvd movies but I have heard that some movies are copy protected. Is this true? What burners burn these movies correctly and what dvd-r's work correctly too? Any help would be grealty appreciated. Thanks.
