    converting from SVCD to VCD

    hi all
I have a couple of movies in SVCD (Mpeg2) format, but my Ye Olde DVD player will only play standard VCD (Mpeg1) disks

is there a really easy way to convert from SVCD to VCD

i have tried using Virtualdub to convert from SVCD to AVi and then Tmpgenc to convert into VCD, but some of the MPEG2 files have come up with errors in VDub

the error looks something like this
"mpeg: anachronistic or discontinuous timestamp found in video stream 0 at byte position 187901366 (may indicate improper join)

any info would be a massive help

    Use TMPGEnc as follows:

    File>>MPEGTools>>Simple Multiplex

    Load your SVCD file

    Change mode to "MPEG1-VideoCD"

Enter a new filename in the "Output" box

    Press the "Run" radio button

(Do not be concerned about any "Buffer underflow" messages you may see)

Burn (DO NOT ask burning software, such as NERO to CONVERT to VCD, rather merely BURN as a VCD)

        nope no good,
did the first 2 mins of the file then the error you mentioned poped up and it just stopped doing anything

        any other idea

"did the first 2 mins of the file then the error you mentioned poped up and it just stopped doing anything"

The methodology works. Therefore, it is safe to assume that the problem lies with your SVCD file(s).

I have been made aware of the existence (in the P2P world) of just such a flawed illegal SVCD copy of a current MAJOR motion picture (It's a copy of the film as submitted for Oscar consideration). I've been advised that, although the SVCD will play properly, it's been intentionally constructed in such a way as to be virtually unalterable/unconvertible...

AHHHA i have had a tinker with TMPGEnc,
i had to run the MPEG2 throught VCD gear to fix the errors, once done i could use the fixed file in TMPGEnc in the same way as you would a AVI file
