blurred video

i recently built a computer (pentium 4) and installed win 2000 in it. after transferring all my videos onto it, i noticed that the audio works fine, but the video looks streaked. it is so distorted that nothing can be made out except colors. they are vertical streaks. and this is for ALL video files on ALL video players, wmp, winamp video player, kazaa, etc

i have already tried the ffdshow thing. what else do i do?

Have you installed the updates to your video card yet or are you running on the generic drivers that Windows provides?

i'm pretty sure i'm using the ATI driver... i'm not too sure tho... it was actually my friend who built my comp for me, so i'm assuming he put the factory ATI driver on it... is there a way i can check?

You can check your display adaptor drivers by running the DX Diagnostics program.
Select Run - then
Type Dxdiag.
You will be able to do numerous checks: video/audio and if any problems are present in your card dixdiag will report them.
However, it would not do any harm to visit the ATI site and download the latest drivers for your card. If nothing else it will put your mind at ease.

ffdshow should save the day. did you check the ffdshow config under codecs. select all that you use daily.
