OK, I need some help with compatibility. Ill list my questions

Can you playback Hi8 and digital8 camcorder tapes in an analog 8mm camcorder?
Can you play an SVHS in a normal VHS VCR?
Can you play a S-VHS-C in a VHS-C adapter in a normal VHS VCR?
If you could answer any of thes questions it would be greatly appreciated.

    wrong forum

You should look for a forum involving analog devices.
These forums specialize DVD/CD and compression. I know you need a device to convert the signal from analog to digital. My only guess is to daisy chain the recording devices and try to transfer from one medium to the other. The support page of the manufacturer should show you the different possibilities.
    no life just digital

I'm quite sure that you can't play [2] and [3]
i think you need some converter for the first problem though
what type of camcorder of yours??

I realize this is quite old, but I'm new here, so I thought I'd reply.

          1. Generally, the difference in the actual tape for 8mm, Hi8, Hi8XR, and Digital8 is just a better quality tape. The camera records to any of these tapes in it's native format. However, if you have a tape that was recorded on a Digital8, it will not play in standard 8mm or Hi8 camcorders. Most (not all) of the better Digital8 camcorders will, however, be backward compatible and play the analog types without problem.

          2. No, you cannot play a SVHS format tape in a standard VHS VCR--again, you can go forward, but not back, so you can play a standard VHS tape in a SVHS VCR, but not the other way around.

          3. No, you cannot play an SVHS-C tape in a VHS-C adapter. If memory serves me correctly, there is a specific hole in the cassette case that identifies it as SVHS.

You can drill a hole in the adapter proly to make it work. I know you can do that with standard VHS tapes to record them in SVHS mode on an SVHS VCR. There was some name for that format (I forgot it and never even used it) and some VCR manufactures eventuly included it in there players.

However this one would proly be pretty much like playing SVHS on VHS. Cant go backwards.
