    how do i convert from <insert adjective here> .mov files to ANYTHING? (preferably divx or some avi format)

          Read the guides at divx-digest.com there may be some free tools available to you.

          Alternatively, you can look for screen capture software.

              I concur with Edge, actually I was going to give the same response but just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

              I did this with some .mov files and it worked great.

                If you're dealing with CURRENT versions of Apple's .MOV format, you'll probably discover that using the suggested TMPGEnc (one of my personal favorites) with the Quicktime plug-in will fail - and that's why I didn't suggest it.
