Subtitles in and divx-ed .avi file?

Hello, is there a way to have subtitles included into the video file and not a .txt file that only one type of media player reads? I mean it's part (as an image) of the video file. It's not as if I sometimes need to take it off when I need a subtitle...

Thanx on the help you can give me

If you do not wish to re-encode the entire movie, you could use SubMux that is included with VobSub 2.23. Otherwise you have to use the VobSub filter together with VirtualDub.
