Can't view most AVIs

Over time I have been able to view less and less AVIs downloading online. Now it seems that almost every AVI I download will not show in Windows Media Player or Real Player. Even when it automatically tries to download a codec it either can't find an appropriate one or it get's one and it still doesn't work.

All other formats are pretty dependable, and some AVIs will work.


Does anybody know what's going on with this?
