could some one tell if there is a way to convert the audio of a movie(avi) that is in ac3 digital to mpg audio?

Demux AC3 stream with VirtualDubMod
Use BeSweet (and BeSweetGUI) to convert to wav/mp2/mp3
You can then mux it back into the avi with Virtualdub

1) Load the .AVI file into TMPGEnc's main window

2) If it only shows your .AVI's name in the "Video input" window and NOT the "Audio input" window, do the following:

Under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input - Load the .AVI file again

3) To save the audiostream only, as an .MP2 file, select "Audio" under "Stream type".
