    Cutting Videos down in size

I have just recieved my new laptop and am about to go to school where they have banned d.l of movies and music. I am trying to put all my DivX movies that i have downloaded on CD's, the problem is that most of the movies are too big for the 700 mb limit.

I was hoping some one would know a good free/adware video formatting tool so i could cut the credits off the movies to make it fit on a normal cd. Thanks a lot.

    VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod...

Cutting with VirtualDub (or any of its variants)

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
    2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
    3) Move slider to the starting point of the scene you wish to delete
    4) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
    6) Move slider to the ending point of the scene you wish to delete
    7) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
    8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End'
    9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Delete frames"
    10) Save with a new filename

you can also save space reducing audio quality of the whole movie (1) or video quality of credits (2).

      1.
_demux/decode audio from file: virtualdub -> save wav...
_reencode audio (give a try to ogg vorbis)
_remux (virtualdub->direct stream copy or oggmux if vorbis)

      2.
_split your movie in 2 parts (movie and credits)
_reencode credits using exactly the same video codec (virtualdub->video full processing mode and audio direct stream copy)
      _append movie and credits.

      should work too..

you can also convert the demux LPCM wav audio stream by loading it into TMPGenc's audio source window and clicking Start. This will give you a significantly reduce .mp2 stream which can be remuxed with the video. Also remember VCD's are not limited by MB's but by time. If you have an 80 min 700MB CD you should get close to 80 minutes on it regardless of MBs.

U can also overburn you cds, if your recorder supports it.
